Tapping Into Collective Grief, Sadness That Doesn’t Belong To You

Many empathic or energetically sensitive people tap into a collective grief or a grief event that is happening elsewhere in the world, and it can be difficult to trace the source. If this is the case for you in this instance and you wish to know the source of your grief, there is a process to do this. 

 

First you must start by becoming aware of the sensations in your body. 

 

Do this by becoming aware of your breath and how it feels as it travels in and out. Then ask your body to tell you where the grief resides. Send your breath to that place and make it three times as large. Continue to hold your awareness on the place in your body where the grief from some other source is living. Then imagine a cord leading from that place within you to wherever it is sourced. Follow the cord to where it goes, even if what you imagine does not make sense to you. 

 

Use whatever input you get — imaginary mind sight, sounds, smells, words, etc — to become aware of the source of your grief. If it is not immediately apparent to you, allow yourself to percolate in your awareness. You may read a news article later in the day about your grief source, or another person says a word to you that causes you to think of a place or event somewhere else in the world. 

 

Know, however, that your sadness has a purpose. You grieve to help release massed grief from some other larger cause, and as you allow yourself to feel sadness even for this thing that is not about you or your life directly, it helps you to dwell at least momentarily in the interconnection among all conscious life.
